Contraception and Sexuality

Statistically, gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men are more likely to encounter sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Therefore, we promote the use of regular tests for all sexually active men https://www.yoursexualhealthmatters.org.uk/further-sexual-health-support/lgbt. In order to be as safe as possible, male condoms should be in use wherever possible. It is not a myth that a punctured condom means the protection is no longer effective, so having more than one is always necessary!

Same sex couple - use condom to reduce STI risk, should be used when using sex toys.

A contraceptive more common with transgender people, is female or male sterilisation. Alongside hormone therapy and gender reassignment therapy, the physical transition of genders can sometimes include sterilisation. We are aware of the compulsory sterilisation regulations for legal recognition of gender in countries, such as Japan and we join to support those of the LBGTQI+ community who are/have been fighting against this government act. For more information or to be involved in campaigns petitioning against this law seek websites, such as Amnesty International.
